Submissions

The editors invite submissions of fiction, literary nonfiction, essays and poetry in traditional and experimental styles.

Authors are encouraged to be creative with their interpretations of our themes. For further reference on these, see our ‘about’ page. Our editors approach every submission with an open-mind, prioritising above anything else, work that is powerful, evocative and colourful.

FICTION: Flash fiction up to 1000 words and short stories up to 5000 words.

NONFICTION: Literary nonfiction, essays and photo essays in traditional and experimental styles up to 10,000 words.

POETRY: Poems are submittable either individually or as part of a collection of up to 12 poems.

Submission Guidelines

We invite submissions year round and publish according to the volume and quality of our submissions, aiming to provide our readers with a minimum of a new piece every two weeks.

How to send us your work: Submissions should be sent for the attention of the editors by email to marlowe@themarlowereview.com

Formatting your work: All manuscripts should be in 12-point type and submitted in PDF or word docx. form. Fiction and nonfiction should be double-spaced. Poetry should be single-spaced. The title of the work, the author’s name, address, telephone number, and email should be typed at the top of the first page. Contributors are asked to include a brief biographical note with their submissions of no more than 200 words.

Illustrations: For submissions concerning specific places or individuals, we encourage authors to submit a section of no more than five photographs or illustrations that illustrate the piece, though this is not mandatory for consideration. Should authors submit photographs or illustrations, we ask for them to be accompanied with full accreditation to the photographer or artist.

Simultaneous submissions: We accept and encourage simultaneous submissions. We just ask that you let us know as soon as possible, should a piece be accepted elsewhere, so that we can discount it from consideration.

Previously Published Work: We do not accept previously published work.

Physical Submissions: We do not accept mailed submissions at this time.

Agented Submissions: We do not accept agented submissions. Submissions must come directly from the author.

International Submissions: We encourage submissions from every corner of the world.

Payment: The Marlowe Review is a free online magazine currently operating without a budget, and all editorial and production work done on this issue is unpaid. As such, we are unable to pay for submissions at this time.
